Wirehaired Pointing Griffon...

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a gundog developed by Eduard Karel Korthals in 1873. It is Dutch in origin, but is regarded as a French breed because a major portion of the breed's development took place in France. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is particularly adapted for swampy country, where its harsh coat is excellent protection. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a superb swimmer and retriever and it loves to play in the water. Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are known as intelligent, extremely eager to please, friendly dogs. They are also known for their slightly less excitable temperament when not in the field.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon has a shaggy-looking double coat comprised of a straight, wired outercoat and a soft undercoat. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon should be groomed regularly with brush and comb. Check during grooming that the ear passages are clean and trim excess hair between the pads of the feet. The ears need extra attention with regular cleaning and plucking of the hairs within the ear canal. Baths should be given only when necessary.
